The Inauguration of Semen Cardona Filipinas
14 June 2018 – Umingan, Pangasinan, Philippines. Semen Cardona Filipinas was inaugurated last 14 June 2018 at the site situated by the mountain ranges of Barangay Diaz in the municipality of Umingan. Notable guests included Hon. Michael Carleone Cruz, the Mayor of Umingan, Fermin Diaz of Lamb Magazine, and Isa Tan of Asian Pork.
Twelve representatives from Semen Cardona of Spain, including its CEO and founder Ma. Angels Rial and son Jordi Coletas, had graced the occasion together with the center’s suppliers for boars: Axiom Genetics of France and UPB Genetic World of Spain. IMV Technologies of France, the supplier for one of the best porcine semen packaging machines, was also at the inauguration.
This project is believed to be the first multi-genetic artificial insemination center here in the Philippines with a capacity of 200 boars and envisioning itself to abide by the biosecurity standards set by Semen Cardona International. Its facilities include top-of-the-line machines such as the artificial vagina to be used for automated extractions called Collectis by IMV Technologies based in France. The dummies are supplied directly from Semen Cardona in Spain, its packaging machine (GTB 1000 V3) by IMV Technologies, and its CASA system also from Spain (ISAS PSUS).
Major farm clients from all over the Philippines had come as well in order to grace the occasion such as San Miguel Foods Incorporated, Sunjin, and Pilmico.
The highlights of the program consisted of three main speakers: Hon. Michael Carleone Cruz, Ma. Angels Rial, and Dr. Hermogenes P. Punzalan Jr., the mayor of Umingan, the founder of Semen Cardona, and the managing director of Plaridel Products and Services Inc., respectively. The ribbon-cutting proceeded right after by the gazebo, overviewing the boar station. Ptr. Reynaldo Avante led the dedication in prayer which was followed by the actual ribbon-cutting by Hon. Michael Cruz, Ma. Angels Rial, Chester Tan, and Jordi Coletas.
An open tour was welcomed as well right after the ribbon-cutting, allowing the guests and major clients to view the facilities of the boar station. A number of positive responses from the guests had encouraged the Semen Cardona Filipinas team even more as this evoked much confidence for what was yet to come.
As Dr. Jun Punzalan had said in his welcoming remarks, “[a]t the end of the day, this is a milestone.” This has been a project that was carefully planned throughout the last several years with the company’s partner, Semen Cardona. As the first Semen Cardona here in Asia, it is our vision that every farmer here in the Philippines can have access to more affordable yet high-quality genetics to upgrade their herd. In doing this, it is our hope that this will not solely provide opportunities, but will also to be used as a tool to better the pork industry here in the country.
